About Us

Why Construction Carbon

Construction Carbon was born out of a frustration at the real estate industry’s failure to lower carbon emissions from construction. The construction process alone accounts for 11% of global carbon emissions and currently the journey to net zero is not standardised or accessible for most developers.

Company Accreditations and Certifications:
Construction Carbon's commitment to excellence is underscored by our formal accreditations and certifications. We proudly hold ISO 14001 certification, an internationally agreed standard that sets out the requirements for an environmental management system, emphasising our dedication to environmental management.

We also hold ISO 9001 certification, a quality management system standard that helps organisations ensure they consistently deliver products or services that meet customer needs and expectations. In recognition of our continued strive for excellence and the highest Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG)standards, we have pursued and achieved B Corp certification.

This highlights our ethical and sustainable business practices, demonstrating our genuine commitment to making a positive impact on society and the environment.

All verification works will be undertaken by company principals holding ISO 14064-3 accreditation. Construction Carbon’s verification approach has been recognised by the UK Green Building Council as a ‘Best practice service aligned with net zero carbon – construction’.

Industry Collaboration and partnerships:
At Construction Carbon, we recognise the importance of collaboration to drive sustainable change in the construction industry. We are proud to announce our formal partnerships with industry bodies The Supply Chain Sustainability School, and CIBSE training, to launch an industry-first free Lifecycle Assessor (LCA) training program.

This training, led by our COO Lucinda Gray, has been developed by leading industry experts such as Simon Sturgis, Jane Anderson, Pat Hermon, and Leonardo Poli.  It is intended to form a stepping stone towards a formal Life Cycle training accreditation. This initiative reflects our dedication to knowledge sharing, ensuring that professionals across the industry have the skills and expertise needed to assess and reduce carbon emissions in construction consistently and effectively.

Experience, Expertise and Standards:
Construction Carbon boasts a substantial track record of success in the field of carbon verification. We have conducted project-level carbon verification on over 30 projects in both building and infrastructure sectors. Our drive for excellence has led us to apply for formal certification for our staff under ISO 14064:3, demonstrating our commitment to adhering to rigorous international standards.

ISO 14064-3:2006 specifies principles and requirements and provides guidance for those conducting or managing the validation and/or verification of greenhouse gas (GHG) assertions. Our familiarity with a wide range of ISO and EN standards as well as industry guidance and publicly available specifications (PAS) related to Lifecycle assessments, including ISO 14040, means we are well placed to conduct lifecycle assessment verification for several project construction types.

ISO 14040 addresses quantitative assessment methods for the assessment of the environmental aspects of a product or service in its entire life cycle stages.ISO 14040 is an overarching standard encompassing all phases of LCA.
